SIM only provider gets tough on data hogs

It has been reported that the SIM only provider GiffGaff has decided that it is going to get tough on data hogs who take advantage of its offering of unlimited data, with reports that it may disconnect them from the network.

Whilst the SIM only provider GiffGaff offers its customers the benefit of being able to enjoy its unlimited data connections, it has apparently found that a very small percentage of its heavier users are actually taking advantage of this privilege and have become data hogs who between them are responsible for the consumption of a huge amount of data.

It has been reported that the SIM only provider GiffGaff has decided that it is going to get tough on data hogs who take advantage of its offering of unlimited data, with reports that it may disconnect them from the network. The provider has said that less than one percent of its users are now responsible for more than one third of its network data consumption.

The company has said that it is not economically viable for it to continue letting these data hogs carry on consuming so much data, as the cost of tracking them down and paying its data fees is too draining. It has therefore decided that firmer action needs to be taken and those guilty of hogging data could find themselves getting kicked off the network for the sake of other users.

In a recent blog the company stated: “As you can probably imagine, the actions of the few using data in this fashion have a couple of major consequences if we allow it to continue. The first is an impact in terms of resource to Giffgaff. The way in which these users are using their data is simply not economically sustainable for us – both in the cost of the data they are using, and in the business time spent on investigating and working with these cases. This is all time and money we could be spending elsewhere to improve and develop Giffgaff as a service and community for you.”
