A fifth of mobile deals sold this year were SIM only

A recently released report has shown that around one fifth of all mobile phone deals that were sold in the UK this year were SIM only deals.

Over recent years there have been a number of changes in the mobile phone industry, one of which has been a rise in the popularity of SIM only plans amongst consumers who do not want to cut down on their mobile phone usage but do want to cut back on the amount of money that they are spending on their mobile phone.

With SIM only plans consumers are able to get either lower prices compared to contract deals that come with a new handset or they are able to pay the same amount of money but get far more texts, minutes and data for their money, which represents greater value. For many, this has become an important deciding factor when considering mobile plans in the current financial climate.

Recent data was released by the UK’s communications regulator Ofcom, which showed that around one fifth of all mobile deals that were sold over the course of this year were SIM only deals, as consumers clamoured to get bargains when it came to their mobile use.

The Ofcom report has also shown that the UK has some of the cheapest mobile phone deals and offers in the world, with cheap, affordable tariffs designed to suit a wide range of needs. Those that did not use their phone much and chose PAYG plans were found to pay the most, although it is claimed that providers do this on purpose to try and encourage users to switch to SIM only deals.
